The Frederick Gunn School, founded in 1850, is a co-ed boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12 as well as a post-graduate year. Mr. Gunn had a deep appreciation for the natural world, believing that in nature students understand themselves as humans and their place in the world. Job Summary:The Frederick Gunn School is seeking a Health Center Registered Nurse (RN) to support the health and wellness of our student community.  The RN will work closely with other members of the Health Center team to assess, treat, and support students, and ensure the Health Center operates smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and treat students presenting with illness or injury.
• Administer daily controlled and non-controlled medications as prescribed.
• Carry out nursing duties in compliance with provider orders and protocols.
• Provide care for students with communicable diseases such as COVID-19, strep throat, and influenza.
• Support day-to-day Health Center operations.
• Implement and monitor treatment plans ordered by medical providers.
• Monitor and report changes in symptoms or behavior; document assessments and actions taken.
• Communicate promptly and professionally with faculty, coaches, and departments regarding student care updates.
• Triage calls by phone; on-call nurses may be asked to report to the Health Center or campus for in-person assessment.
• Transport students to urgent care appointments when necessary.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Health Services.

Requirements:

• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
• Experience in adolescent or school health is preferred, but not necessary.
• Ability to work independently with strong physical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Culturally responsive, with a customer service mindset and the ability to communicate effectively with families from diverse backgrounds.
• Familiarity with August Schools (EMR system) and Google Suite is a plus.

Schedule & Commitment:

• Hours will include weekdays, evenings, and weekends; shift rotation required.
• Typical shifts include:
• Weekdays: 7:30 am – 7:00 pm or 7:30 am – 4:30 pm
• Weekends: Rotation weekends 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (8:00 am on community weekends)
• Follows the school’s academic calendar.
• On-call night rotation is required (most calls are phone triage).

Summary

The Director of Health Services is responsible for the successful management of The Frederick Gunn School’s Health Center. Through their leadership, the school will provide safe and supportive health services to Frederick Gunn School students on campus, and be responsible for arranging treatment off campus when necessary. The Director of Health Services will work collaboratively with the Assistant Head of School for Student Life and Wellness, Dean of Students office, Athletic Trainer and Director of Counseling to ensure students are receiving a comprehensive level of care.   

This position requires an individual with a passion for both health care and building relationships within a boarding school environment. While the school does not operate a 24/7 Health Center, faculty and students are on campus at all times. The Director of Health Services is not expected to be on duty at all times but should work to understand the complexities of boarding school life, building support systems that serve the community well both when the Health Center is open and when it is not. Not only will the Director of Health Services provide accountability for patient care within the Health Center and maintain a safe and healthy work environment that supports the Health Center staff, they will embody the school’s belief about forging partnerships with students and their parents. By leading a department that will be proactive and responsive to parent inquiry, while embracing a customer service mindset in all communications, the Director of Health Services will strengthen existing relationships with parents and students and forge new ones with families who are new to the school.

The Director of Health Services is a part of an essential network of adults working within The Frederick Gunn School community to support its students. Collaboration and relationship building are essential for this position. The Director of Health Services will work closely with the Assistant Head of School for Student Life and Wellness, the Dean of Students, and the Director of Counseling to understand the sometimes complicated challenges students may face as they navigate their high school years. The Director of Health Services shares responsibility with these other roles for establishing excellent communication norms and a high level of trust. The Director of Health Services will also be in close communication with the school’s Medical Director.  

Essential Functions / Responsibilities of the Director 

• Act as an advocate, in loco parentis, for the students’ health care needs and serve as a liaison between parents/guardians and faculty members while maintaining student confidentiality.
• Monitor public health safety of the Frederick Gunn community through the collection and reporting of epidemiological data to state and local health agencies as warranted and provide appropriate guidance to the leadership of the school when warranted.
• Manage Clinic hours on campus and treat / prescribe medication when able
• Coordinate services provided to students outside of the health center.
• Manage relationships with external health insurance providers and enrollment of international students into the plan.
• Develop, implement, maintain and review policies and procedures and protocols to ensure a high quality care for students.
• Inventory, organize and prepare all supply purchases, and monitor expenses to operate the Health Center within budget.
• Recruit, hire, orient, supervise, evaluate, manage, and delate, all health center staff (nurses, admin and drivers), including annual written performance review.
• Schedule all Health Services Staff, oversee, advise, back up on-call coverage, and coordinate overnight care if necessary.
• Responsible for implementation and monitoring of ethical standards and best practices for care and health-related services.
• Conduct periodic workshops, both at School Meetings and Community Weekends,  as well as in-service training programs to instruct school personnel in proper first aid; educate house parents and assess faculty needs within residential life.
• Maintain professional standing through required continuing education to increase professional competence and to meet personal needs and goals.
• Oversee that the Health Services facility is a clean, orderly and safe space at all times; ensure the safe disposal of biomedical waste and hazards according to established procedures; maintain inventory and order first aid supplies as necessary; see that all first aid kits for houses, classrooms, and school vehicles are properly stocked at all times. Ensure medications are secured in double-locked cabinets.
• Responsible for organizing, supervising, and  managing the outcomes of the core functions of the Health Center outlined below.

Health Center Functions to be overseen:

• Assure students have updated immunization records per Connecticut Department of Public Health. Review records of new students in preparation of their arrival to campus, knowing in advance of any existing medical conditions that might warrant immediate attention.
• Maintain student health records and accident reports including treatment records/logs, emergency cards, immunization records, handicap and allergy information, and hearing/vision screening to include computer data entry of information while assuring confidentiality at all times. Ensure all information is documented clearly, accurately, and legally.
• Ensure the medical file management system is compliant and effective for the services provided to students and families. Ensure all required health records are maintained in a manner that maintains confidentiality and is consistent with HIPAA and FERPA guidelines. Oversee the maintenance of clinical records, medication administration and compliance and other student health forms within the August School system.
• Receive and review student health files incoming from other schools; communicate with other schools and families as needed to clarify or obtain the necessary information when needed.
• Ensure proper disposal of medical waste created by the health center and abandoned medication after a student departs.
• Administration of both student and employee drug testing.

• Minimum of seven years clinical experience, with a minimum of three years in a leadership/management position

Summary

The Frederick Gunn School is seeking a reliable and responsible Part-Time Health Center Driver to transport and supervise students to and from medical appointments using a school vehicle. The driver will be an essential part of the Health Center team, ensuring safe and timely transportation while providing a supportive and attentive presence for students. This position offers flexible hours, typically ranging from 3-6 hours per day on selected days throughout the school year.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to medical appointments in school-provided vehicles.
• Ensure students’ safety and supervise them during transport and at medical facilities.
• Communicate with Health Center staff and medical offices to coordinate appointment schedules.
• Maintain accurate records of transportation times and destinations.
• Adhere to school policies and relevant state driving regulations.
• Exhibit professional and compassionate behavior when interacting with students, staff, and medical personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of driving regulations and safety procedures: Must be familiar with safe driving practices and state regulations, particularly those related to transporting students.
• Ability to handle emergencies calmly: Able to make sound decisions in the event of an emergency and ensure student safety at all times.
• Strong time-management skills: Ability to manage flexible hours and coordinate with health center staff to ensure timely transportation.
• Communication skills: Ability to interact with students, health professionals, and school staff effectively, providing clear updates and feedback as needed.
• Supervisory skills: Experience in overseeing the safety and well-being of minors, ensuring they are accounted for and follow procedures during transportation.
• Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge: Capable of performing minor checks to ensure the vehicle is in working condition (e.g., fuel, tire pressure, etc.).

Qualifications

• Must have or be able to obtain a Public Service License (PSL) with Endorsement A (information on obtaining a PSL can be found here).
• Prior experience in driving and supervising minors is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with adolescents in a caring and professional manner.
• Availability for flexible hours during the school year.
• Excellent driving record and knowledge of safe driving practices.

Summary 

Reporting to the Director of Facilities and/or their designee, the General Facilities Associate will assist in ensuring that the Facilities operation delivers services to students, faculty and staff in the most efficient and professional manner. The Associate will support all campus operations as needed.

• Assist and perform Event Set-ups/breakdowns
• Assist with furniture moves (offices/dorm rooms/etc.)

• Make various deliveries on campus (transportation provided)
• Perform various minor maintenance tasks (training provided)
• Assist in various Grounds/Landscape tasks (training provided)

• Assist in the logistical operations of the Department

Qualifications 

All candidates must:

• Possess a valid CT Driver’s License with a clean driving record and have reliable transportation.
• Be able to lift and carry up to 100lbs.
• Be able to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding and platforms.
• Occasional night and weekend hours will be required for special events (graduation, reunions, etc.), and inclement weather.
• Be willing to learn all aspects of the Facilities Department Operations as well as offer ideas for improvements and efficiencies.
• Possess basic math skills, be able to read, write and speak fluent English.

Position Summary

The Frederick Gunn School seeks dedicated and reliable Substitute Teachers to join our coverage pool for the 2026–27 academic year. Substitute Teachers will play a key role in ensuring continuity of student learning during faculty absences. They will maintain a positive and engaging classroom environment while implementing lesson plans provided by full-time faculty. 

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom coverage for absent teachers across multiple subject areas.
• Take attendance, follow lesson plans, and maintain academic continuity.
• Maintain classroom order and ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.
• Engage students in meaningful activities, with support from department chairs in cases of emergency absences.
• Communicate with the absent teacher and/or department chair regarding lesson completion and student progress.
• Uphold school policies, procedures, and community standards.

Qualifications

• Teaching experience, or relevant experience working with adolescents, strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree required (degree in Education preferred).
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to a variety of disciplines and teaching styles.
• Successful completion of background check and reference screening.

Per Diem rate ($150 full-day/$75 half-day).

The Frederick Gunn School, founded in 1850, is a co-ed boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year. Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship, the Assistant Director of Advancement manages the systems, timelines, and materials that keep the School's stewardship program running accurately and on schedule, while also supporting events and programming across the entire Advancement office. This role is responsible for the annual stewardship calendar, donor impact reporting, gift acknowledgment processes, and production of the On The Go (OTG) e-newsletter, and provides support to the Director of Special Events as needed. The successful candidate will bring strong organizational skills, sound writing and editing judgment, and the independence to manage recurring deadlines with minimal oversight. There is room for the role to grow: a candidate who demonstrates strategic judgment and donor relations instincts will have the opportunity to take on a greater role alongside the Director.

Primary Responsibilities

Stewardship Timeline, Tracking and Reporting

• Collaborate with the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship on annual stewardship strategy and calendar
• Own the annual stewardship timeline, including deadlines, deliverables, and follow-up
• Track endowed fund reporting requirements and ensure timely completion
• Maintain tracking systems so that every stewardship commitment is documented and on schedule
• Gather information and stories from across campus for donor impact reports and online newsletter 
• Coordinate with faculty and departments to collect content and updates
• Draft impact reports and related donor communications
• Assemble and finalize materials for distribution to donors
• Conduct prospect research on alumni and parent constituents and prepare briefing documents ahead of donor meetings and cultivation visits

Acknowledgment Systems

• Manage the weekly gift acknowledgment letter process from draft through mailing
• Draft and execute acknowledgment letters for a range of gift types
• Collaborate with Development Operations on report management and data accuracy
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date data tracking for all acknowledgments
• Identify gifts that may warrant more stewardship

On The Go (OTG) Newsletter Production

• Develop the yearly content strategy and production schedule for OTG
• Collect content from across the Advancement office and campus partners
• Manage layout, production, and distribution of each issue

Office and Special Projects Support

• Serve as the primary point of contact for answering general phone calls and greeting guests at the door
• Support the Director of Special Events as needed
• Support Parents Council communications and other volunteer leadership programming as needed
• Assist with other events and programming 
• Take on special projects for the team as they arise

Growth Opportunity

• Support broader stewardship initiatives as capacity and experience develop
• Opportunity to take on expanded ownership of stewardship, volunteer management, and/or other communication strategy 

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

• Bachelor's degree required
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; database experience (Raiser's Edge or equivalent) preferred
• Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential donor information
• A collaborative, team-oriented approach and excellent interpersonal skills
• A self-starter who takes initiative and follows through with minimal supervision
• Highly motivated and enthusiastic, with good time management skills, a sense of humor, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary

Frequency

Private lessons will be scheduled once per week, per student, lasting 40–60 minutes. The number of students will vary based on enrollment and interest.

Additional Responsibilities 

The instructor may be asked to lead sectional rehearsals, cover ensemble classes, or perform with school ensembles as needed. These responsibilities would be compensated separately.

Experience 

A minimum of one year of experience teaching high school students (beginner through intermediate levels) is required.

Location 

All lessons will take place on The Frederick Gunn School campus in the TPACC practice rooms.

Employment

This is a part-time employment opportunity (W2), which includes standard background and finger-printing procedures.

Teaching Expectations

Instruction should include, but is not limited to: fundamental piano technique, touch and tone production, hand position and coordination, articulation, voicing, and stylistic interpretation. Emphasis should be placed on jazz-specific skills, including chord voicings, comping patterns, improvisation, scales and modes, ii–V–I progressions, and stylistic fluency (swing, Latin, and contemporary styles). Additional areas should include melodic and rhythmic sight-reading, lead sheet interpretation, and basic music theory. The instructor should also address practice strategies, listening skills, and ensemble collaboration. The ability to teach across a variety of musical styles and genres (including classical, jazz, and contemporary styles) is expected.
